Niche Marketing – How To Understand Amazon Ratings So You Can Build a Profitable Niche Site

This factor in niche marketing especially on Amazon is probably the main factor that determines whether you’ll make a sale or not. As with any product or service, if it’s a bad review (even though this is subjective), it will affect the buyers decision making process.
On Amazon, it allows the customer to post reviews of products they have purchased and that alone can either further promote the product or completely destroy it.

It would seem obvious that as a niche marketer you would want to promote a product that has a very good rating but not just any rating will do. The rating must be very high, consistent and by many buyers.
The way Amazon rates products is by letting the user give a review and then for them to select a star rating. 1 star being the lowest and 5 being the highest. The number of reviews is also important to inspire confidence for other buyers.
10 reviews can be divided by the different star ratings, and this wouldn’t make it a desirable product to promote. As mentioned before, the product must give confidence to a prospective buyer.
The number of top reviews or with the highest rating must be more than the lower reviews combined to actually give some sort of indication that it’s a good product.
In most cases, the majority of reviews are correct and the odd few low reviews are exceptions. As long as there are more good reviews than bad ones then buyers will usually overlook this and still make a purchase.
