Microsoft just wants to keep on getting a bigger piece of that pie... They have figured out a way to stop Linux from being installed and/or dual booted on PCs that are Windows 8 certified machines. Microsoft has moved away from the BIOS firmware layer and have moved into a new rule of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). This is not an issue as Linux distributors have already tackled this problem, but now the system must support secure booting. Secured booting is when any hardware or software that is installed into the Windows 8 certified machine needs to be signed by a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). None of the current boot-loaders or distributors of Linux OS have signed firmware.
Windows reasoning for this is that it is finally securing its hardware from malware and other viruses that could get in through open source software. This just sounds fishy to me... more like Microsoft is being a little greedy in the PC market. Come back here for future updates.
